The MP for Cardiff West, Alex Barros-Curtis MP, recently visited Ysgol Plasmawr to meet pupils and staff and learn more about how the school is encouraging young people to engage with politics and public life, as well as the important role it plays in providing Welsh-medium education in the community.
During the visit, the MP was given a tour of the school by the Head Pupils and members of staff, who highlighted the work being done across the school and the opportunities available to students. The visit provided an opportunity to see the school community in action and to learn more about how the school supports learning through the Welsh language.
Following a short break, the MP met with students studying politics as well as members of the school’s Politics Club. Pupils were given the chance to ask questions about Parliament, political life and the issues affecting their community, creating an open and engaging discussion.
Speaking after the visit, the MP for Cardiff West said: “It was fantastic to visit Ysgol Plasmawr and meet so many thoughtful and engaged young people. The questions from pupils studying politics and those involved in the Politics Club were insightful and showed a real interest in how decisions are made and how they can be involved in shaping the future.”
They added: “Schools like Ysgol Plasmawr play an incredibly important role, not only in providing high-quality education but also in supporting the Welsh language and culture. It was a pleasure to speak with the students and I hope our discussion helped give them a greater insight into how politics works and the many ways they can make their voices heard.”
