The MP for Cardiff West, Alex Barros-Curtis, has visited the 7 Steel plant in Cardiff to gain a closer understanding of the future of the Welsh steel industry and the company’s role as a major local employer.

During the visit, the MP toured the facility and met with company representatives to learn more about the scale of operations and the challenges facing the sector. The visit formed part of ongoing engagement between policymakers and industry to better understand the realities of steel production and the role plants like 7 Steel play in supporting jobs and economic growth.

Speaking after the visit, the MP for Cardiff West said: “It was incredibly valuable to visit the 7 Steel facility and see firsthand the scale and complexity of the work taking place here. Steel remains a vital part of the Welsh economy, and it was important to hear directly from those working in the industry about both the challenges they face and the opportunities for the future.”

They added that the visit helped provide a clearer picture of the company’s impact locally. “7 Steel plays an important role as a local employer, supporting skilled jobs and contributing to the wider supply chain. Spending time on site allowed me to ask detailed questions and gain a deeper understanding of the sector’s current position and what is needed to ensure a strong and competitive future for Welsh steel.”
