I know the cost of energy is a big issue in Cardiff West. That’s why I’m pleased to say that from next winter, 110,000 more families in Wales will receive £150m off their energy bills.
This will provide much needed support to low income households and pensioners across our area.
It will provide much needed energy security through the winter, and put more money back in people’s pockets.
As a result of the terrible legacy left by the Conservatives our energy system is still largely dependent on unstable, insecure fossil fuels.
We’re taking steps to secure our energy supply, by going all out for cheap, clean power that we can control here at home.
But by providing this immediate support to low income households and pensioners who will need it next winter, we are ensuring that as we move to a clean power system, families are protected.
The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a one-off £150 discount off your electricity bill.
If you’re eligible, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill. The money is not paid to you.
You’ll usually get the discount automatically if you’re eligible.
You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity and you’re eligible. Contact your supplier to find out.
You qualify if you either:
- get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
- are on a low income and have high energy costs
